Black Parents
Black Parents is a Montreal-based band composed primarily of siblings from a musical family: Dave (vocals), Wesley (vocals), Mario (bass), and Béatrice (drums). From a young age, these siblings were immersed in music thanks to their parents and uncles, better known as Les Frères Parents, a popular group in the Haitian community during the 1970s. In 1999, Black Parents, all songwriters, decided to launch their music career with a unique style: Ragga Kompa, a skillful blend of Haitian Kompa and Jamaican Reggae. Their debut album, Sensualité (1999), featuring the title track “Sensuel,” was an immediate worldwide success, praised for its originality and youthful energy. Following this initial success, Black Parents performed throughout Quebec, France, Martinique, the United States, and Haiti, participating in numerous prestigious festivals, such as the Nuits d’Afrique Festival (Montreal), the Granby Festival, the Haitian Carnival, the Haitian Caribbean Festival (New York), and the Haitian Flag Day celebrations (Miami).
