Alison Hinds
Alison Amanda Hinds, often referred to as the “Queen of Soca,” was born on June 1, 1970, in London, England, and raised in Plaistow, London. Her parents were from Barbados, and her father worked at Ford’s Dagenham plant. When she was 11 years old, her parents divorced, and she moved to Barbados with her mother.
Hinds began her musical career in 1986 when she joined the soca band Square One after finishing high school. She left the band in 2004 to focus on her family life, particularly after the birth of her daughter. She has since established herself as one of the most popular soca singers globally, producing numerous hit songs that top charts even in countries where soca is not widely listened to.
In 1992, Hinds won the Barbados Song Contest with the duet “Hold You in a Song” alongside John King. She also won the Road March in both 1996 and 1997 and secured the Party Monarch title in 1996 with her hit “Twister.” She was the first woman to achieve these titles in Barbados.
Hinds is currently active in the music industry and continues to perform and produce music.
